Sealing Strips for Shower Doors: How to Read a Product Listing

Two listings can both say “clear shower door seal” yet describe different parts. Read the description as a specification: where it fits, what it does and exactly what arrives in the pack.

Translate the name into a job

A bottom sweep works at the lower edge; a side lip meets an adjacent surface; a magnetic strip works with a mating component. U, H and F are shape descriptions, not universal part numbers.

Separate glass thickness from gap

“For 8 mm glass” describes the receiving glass, not an 8 mm opening the seal can close. A fin dimension may describe its free length rather than the permitted installation gap.

Measure the glass and working gap separately, retaining the original units. For a vertical edge, check top, middle and bottom; for a bottom edge, check both ends and the middle.

State which surfaces define the gap and whether the old seal was fitted. Ask the seller to confirm the proposed section against these measurements instead of rounding to a familiar nominal size.

Confirm the fitting method

A push-on glass channel, a frame insert and an adhesive-mounted strip are different constructions. Match the existing arrangement and follow the selected part’s instructions rather than adding glue to hold a loose channel.

For magnetic seals, show both sides, the closed arrangement and normal movement. Read any angle label with the supplier’s drawing; the magnetic guide explains the checks.

For curved glass, send the available curve details. A flexible lip does not prove the gripping carrier will follow that curve.

Read the unit and length

Confirm the number of pieces, length of each and whether mating parts are included. Bohle explicitly supplies BO5213515 as a pair; other magnetic listings may use a different unit.

For cut lengths, confirm how the length is measured and whether final trimming is required. Keep the original part until the replacement is identified and checked.

Attach a marked whole-door photograph, end view and the measurements above. Ask the seller to confirm the model, attachment method, permitted gap, supplied length and pack contents.
